LocalMate started with a simple observation:
travel feels completely different when you know someone in the city.
LocalMate wasn’t born from a business plan. It was born from a personal experience,mine.
My name is Rodrigo, and before LocalMate existed, I had no idea how much a local companion could transform the way someone travels.
Years ago, I visited Colombia for the first time completely on my own.
I booked everything through the usual platforms, tried to follow Google recommendations, and explored the city like any typical tourist.
And while the trip was fine… it always felt like something was missing.I didn’t fully understand which areas were safe.
I didn’t know how to negotiate with local vendors. I paid tourist prices for almost everything. And even exchanging dollars felt tense and confusing. I realized I was experiencing the city, yes, but not the real one.
Then came my second trip. And everything changed.
On that trip, a local friend-of-a-friend welcomed us. That’s when I understood the difference between traveling… and belonging.

And he even found us beautiful, affordable places to stay, far better and cheaper than anything I saw on booking platforms.
Instead of worrying, we relaxed.
Instead of guessing, we trusted.
Instead of visiting, we connected.
By the end of the trip, we weren’t clients. We were friends. And honestly, we didn’t mind paying him, because the value he brought to our experience was far beyond money.
